Nicholas Nelson, MD, Joins the Great Falls Hospital Interventional Radiology Team

The Great Falls Clinic is excited to announce Nicholas “Nick” Nelson, MD, joining our Interventional Radiology team. Dr. Nelson works as a part-time Interventional Radiologist beginning April 2024.

Dr. Nelson graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from Thurgood Marshall College at the University of California, San Diego in 1999; he then attended Indiana University School of Medicine where he received his Master of Science in 2002 and Doctor of Medicine degrees in 2006.

In 2007, Dr. Nelson completed a General Surgery internship at the John Hopkins Hospital Surgery Department in Baltimore, Maryland. He then spent the next four years serving as a Battalion Surgeon with the United States Marine Corps, with combat deployments to Fallujah, Iraq and Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Following additional years as a US Navy General Medical Officer, Dr. Nelson completed his Diagnostic Radiology Residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego from 2014 – 2018. In 2020, Dr. Nelson completed a Vascular and Interventional Radiology fellowship at the Dotter Department of Interventional Radiology, Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon.

Along with his part-time position with the Great Falls Clinic, Dr. Nelson works as the Division Officer and Academic Chief of Interventional Radiology at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia.

In his spare time, Dr. Nelson enjoys spending time with his family and exploring the outdoors.
