The Great Falls Clinic is excited to welcome Dr. Alan Greenwald, orthopedic physician and bone health specialist, to the Orthopedic Team. Dr. Greenwald has been advocating for patients’ best interests for nearly 50 years of his patient-centric practice. He has worked in rural healthcare for the past 12 years, while being active in state and national organizations such as the Washington State Medical Association and the San Francisco County Medical Society in California, and various Counties in Washington. As he begins his next chapter with the Great Falls Clinic, Dr. Greenwald is eager to extend this same all-inclusive, compassionate care across central Montana.
Dr. Greenwald began his education at Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania where he achieved a bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1973. Afterwards he went to the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in Pennsylvania and graduated with a medical degree in 1977. For the next year, he worked as an intern at Emanual Hospital in Portland, Oregon. From 1978 to 1980, Dr. Greenwald served as an orthopedic medical officer in the United States Navy. Following this, he completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the San Fransico Orthopedic Combined Program in 1984.
Dr. Greenwald has over 45 years of experience as an orthopedic surgeon in rural areas and as a clinical faculty member across the United States. In the past few years though he has decided to change the trajectory of his career. His role at the Great Falls Clinic will be prioritizing patient’s bone health, osteoporosis, fracture prevention and non-surgical orthopedics care.
“Some years ago, the orthopedic community focused on setting up clinics that are designed to help capture fragility fractured patients and get them seen and treated properly. So that is a pivot I am making in my career… Instead of doing surgery I am going to try to make people’s moments healthier,” Dr. Greenwald shared.
Dr. Greenwald is accepting new patients and referrals at the Great Falls Clinic Specialty Center, 3000 15th Ave S. To get more information please call (406) 454-2171.
