Great Falls Hospital is proud to welcome board-certified orthopedic surgeon Peter D. Hanson, MD, to our growing orthopedic team at the Great Falls Clinic Capital City Specialty Center in Helena.
With more than 30 years of medical experience and specialized fellowship training in foot and ankle surgery, Dr. Hanson brings a wealth of expertise to our community. While he is highly specialized, he also practices general orthopedics, treating a broad range of upper- and lower-extremity conditions.
A Lifelong Legacy of Medical Care in Helena
Dr. Hanson’s path to medicine is deeply rooted in Central Montana. He grew up watching his father, Dr. Harris D. Hanson, who founded the Helena Orthopedic Clinic over 60 years ago. As a result, this lifelong exposure instilled in him a deep appreciation for community-focused healthcare. For the past 23 years, Dr. Hanson has been dedicated to serving patients throughout Helena and Central Montana.

Before earning his medical degree, Dr. Hanson completed unique undergraduate studies that gave him an analytical, precise edge in complex orthopedic procedures. Personal Interests
When he isn’t treating patients, Dr. Hanson loves spending quality time with his wife and three children. He fully embraces the Montana lifestyle, enjoying outdoor activities like skiing, hunting, fishing, and hiking.
